The Williamsville Community Unit School District #15 Athletic Department along with Williamsville High School is excited to announce Joe Fandel as the seventh head coach in the twenty-eight year history of Bullets Soccer. Coach Fandel takes over for Mitch Davidson, who resigned after eight years at the helm at the end of the 22-23 season.
“As a former player and coach for the Bullets over the past eleven years, I have worked with Coach Fandel, and know that he will continue the tradition of Bullets Soccer. Joe has been the head coach of the girls’ soccer program for almost two decades, as well as an assistant for the boys’ program for the past several seasons. In addition, he was a collegiate soccer player for the Big Blue at Millikin. As a father of both a daughter and son who have played for Williamsville, he brings not only a professional interest in the program, but a personal desire to see the team continue to be successful. I look forward to seeing Coach Fandel and the team on the field during the upcoming season” – Mitch Davidson
Coach Fandel brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with him as the new head coach for the boys’ soccer program. He has been member of the coaching staff at WCUSD #15 since 2002, coaching junior softball, junior high girls’ basketball, junior high track, and both boys’ and girls’ soccer.
Coach Fandel has been key figure in the development and growth of the girls’ soccer program since 2004, when he became an assistant under then head coach, Max Perienti. After five seasons, he was named the fifth coach in program history, and has held that position for the past thirteen seasons. During this time Coach Fandel has guided the program to two conference titles, six regional titles, one sectional title, and an IHSA State Finals appearance in 2016, where the team finished fourth in class 1A. During his tenure, Coach Fandel has amassed an overall record of 190-85-12, and become the all-time winningest coach in program history during the 2021 season.
Coach Fandel also by key member of the Coach Davidson’s coaching staff over the past seven seasons. Since being named an assistant coach in 2016, Coach Fandel has been on a staff that has guided to the boys’ soccer program to back-to-back Sangamo Conference titles in 2021 and 2022, and two IHSA Regional Titles in 2016 and 2022.
“I am very excited in having the opportunity to coach a soccer program that has had success over the years. I’m looking forward to continuing and building on the success that the boys’ program has experienced.” – Joe Fandel
We are extremely excited for Coach Fandel to continue the success that Coach Davidson and the previous coaches within the program have helped to establish. The Tradition of Excellence that is Bullets Soccer will continue across the area and throughout Illinois for many years to come.

Mitch Davidson has been a member of the Williamsville School District Athletic Department for the past eleven years as both an assistant and head coach. Since becoming an assistant boys soccer coach during the 2012-2013 school year, he has been an active coach that has impacted the lives of hundreds of student athletes.
After assisting Coach Dan Rigney for three seasons and helping guide the Bullets to three regional titles and one sectional title, Coach Davidson took over the Bullets Boys’ Soccer Program in the 2015-2016 school year and became the sixth head coach in program history. His first career win as head coach came Wednesday, September 2, 2015, in a 2-0 win over North-Mac. This would be the first of many wins, as he would amass an overall record of 95-71-17.
During his tenure, Coach Davidson continued the Tradition of Excellence that is Bullet Athletics and helped guide his teams to two Sangamo Conference Titles and three IHSA Regional Titles. He also ends his tenure as the second winningest coach in program history.
Most people will remember all the accomplishments that Coach Davidson achieved during his career as a coach for the Williamsville School District. More notably though, was the number of lives that he impacted over the last twelve years, as both a teacher and a coach.
Coach Davidson has left an indelible mark on Bullet Athletics during his time as a coach for the Bullets, and from the bottom of our hearts, we all thank you.
